top story photo The Department of Transportation has reported that airline full- and part-time employment rose in January 2017 and is more than 70,000 higher than a year ago.

DOT's Bureau of Transportation Statistics reported that all U.S. airlines, including scheduled passenger, charter and cargo, employed 686,802 people in January 2017. That is up slightly from December 2016 but is more than 70,000 above the figure in January 2016.

The next DOT report on airline employment data will be issued on April 10.
