Spirit Airlines Tuesday announced the retirement of Jacob Schorr as CEO. Schorr will continue in his position as chairman of the board. Effective immediately, B. Ben Baldanza will assume the position of CEO. Baldanza joined the company as president in January 2005.
Schorr joined Spirit in 1997 as both an investor and as chief information officer. In April of 2000, he assumed the position of CEO.
Spirit Tuesday also launched its 18th Airbus A319 aircraft. The carrier's fleet now consists of 18 Airbus A319s, six Airbus A321s, and seven MD-80s. Spirit will take delivery of seven more A319s in 2006 and said it expects to becoming an all Airbus fleet by the fall of 2006.
