Congress Passes One-Week CR to Fund Government Through May 5

top story photo The House and Senate on Friday passed a short-term continuing resolution to extend government funding for one week, giving lawmakers more time to wrap up negotiations on an omnibus package of appropriations bills to cover the remainder of FY 2017.

The President was expected to sign the CR, which extends current government spending levels through May 5, before the existing funding stopgap expired at midnight on Friday.

House and Senate Appropriations Committee leaders have indicated that they are close to a deal on the FY 2017 omnibus that would fund the government through the end of September. But lawmakers needed more time to reach a final compromise after talks were held up due to disputes over funding for President Trump's proposed border wall and health care subsidies.
