Miami Airports Report Economic Impact

top story photo The combined economic impact of Miami International and Miami-Dade County's four GA airports continues to increase, according to the results of a new study.

The study by Martin Associates concluded that the airports supported 282,000 direct and indirect jobs and accounted for $33.7 billion in business revenues in 2014, an increase of 4,600 jobs and $200 million over the previous year.

Miami International alone generates $33.06 billion in direct and indirect business revenues, according to the report. The airport's 2014 growth was spurred in part by the addition of eight new air carriers that are projected to bring 6,800 direct and indirect jobs to the community and generate business revenues in excess of $830 million, assuming that they sustain operations at MIA for one full year.

"MIA has long been known as the top economic engine for Miami-Dade County, and this study puts that unofficial title in clear context," said Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio González. "We aren't just in the business of connecting our community to the world - we're in the business of supporting hundreds of thousands of local jobs, billions of dollars in local purchases and tens of billions of dollars in business revenues across a variety of industries. We're determined to continue on this upward path and to support the community that supports us."
