Smiths Detection Wins $27M Contract For Checkpoint X-rays

top story photo Smiths Detection announced a $27 million (Canadian) order from the Canadian Air Transportation Security Authority (CATSA) to provide advanced X-ray systems that will upgrade existing airport checkpoints. The Advanced Threat Identification X-ray (aTiX) devices can detect explosives automatically.

The CATSA purchase covers two sizes of X-ray systems, including the HI SCAN 6040 aTiX. Upgrading from earlier Smith Detection products, the order is intended to replace traditional single-view systems in airports across Canada. They will be deployed in the coming months.

The order also includes the new HI SCAN 7555 aTiX, the latest member of the Smiths Detection's aTiX range. Slightly larger than previous scanners, it can accommodate items such as strollers and larger carry-ons. The CATSA order represents the first deployment of the new HI SCAN 7555 aTiX system worldwide.
