AAAE President Charles Barclay has written to Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chair Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Ranking Member James Inhofe (R-Okla.) expressing AAAE's opposition to S.787, the Clean Water Restoration Act.
The bill would amend the Federal Water Pollution Control Act to clarify the jurisdiction of the U.S. over the nation's waters and is the companion bill to H.R. 2421, the Clean Water Restoration Act of 2007. It is expected that the bill will be marked up by the committee in the coming month.
Barclay stated that, if S.787 is enacted into law in its current form, airports could face costly and time-consuming permitting processes to ensure that their discharges will not impact the quality of the newly regulated receiving waters.
