FAA: Airports Should Advise Of Plans To Use Entitlement

top story photo FAA has informed AAAE's Airport Legislative Alliance that airports "should be advising the FAA immediately of their intentions to use their entitlements and, if so, that they will advertise, bid, and submit an application for their project prior to Aug. 1, 2008."

The announcement came after President Bush on June 30 signed into law a bill to extend aviation programs and excise taxes through the end of September. The three-month extension will allow FAA to distribute the remaining AIP funds that airports are slated to receive during the current fiscal year.

H.R. 6327, the FAA Extension Act of 2008, will allow airports to receive an additional $758.3 million for the final quarter of fiscal year 2008. That amount includes $521.6 million in entitlements and $112.1 million in discretionary funds. The extension coupled with previously approved legislation will allow airports to receive a total of $3.515 billion in AIP funds for the entire fiscal year.
